Travel to the US

We Make Travel Simple.

Getting from South Africa to your American camp can seem daunting, but SAFRICAMPS provides comprehensive guidance to make your travel seamless and stress-free.

Flight Logistics

  • Self-Booking: While we provide guidance on timing, you are responsible for booking and paying for your round-trip airfare.
  • Arrival Dates: Your camp will provide a specific arrival date (and often a specific airport) that you must adhere to for training.
  • Flexibility: We strongly advise booking a flexible or refundable ticket, just in case your visa interview or placement schedule requires minor adjustments.

The Post-Camp Travel Window

  • Explore America: Your J-1 Visa allows you up to 30 days after your camp contract ends to travel within the US.
  • Return Date: Ensure your return ticket is booked no later than 30 days after your official camp end date.
  • Planning: We recommend having a rough travel plan before you arrive, though you’ll finalize it with your new friends at camp!

Airport Arrival & Camp Pickup

  • Designated Airport: Once placed, you will fly to an airport near your camp’s location.
  • Camp Pickup: Almost all US summer camps arrange and pay for your transportation from the designated airport directly to the camp grounds. Look for a camp representative holding a sign!
